Is language a special type of music?

Exploring the many associations between language and music, Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music and the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) researchers concluded that "musical hearing and ability is essential to language acquisition" and that music merits a central place in our understanding of human development. Further research could investigate why music therapy can be helpful for people with reading and speech disorders.
